Description

The Elegoo Centauri Carbon is an enclosed CoreXY printer and the value pick of 2025: a sealed chamber and real speed at open-bedslinger prices. It ships assembled, calibrates itself and prints well on stock profiles — a solid first printer and an easy second machine for ABS, ASA and carbon-filled blends.

Build volume is 256×256×256 mm, up to 500 mm/s (250 mm/s recommended), acceleration to 20,000 mm/s². The brass nozzle with a hardened steel core runs to 320 °C, the bed to 110 °C, layer height spans 0.1–0.4 mm, accuracy is ±0.1 mm. Direct drive extruder, 17.5 kg, under 50 dB, Klipper-based firmware with Fluidd.

Pros

  • Plug-and-play for real: 20–30 minutes of auto calibration (121-point mesh, Z offset, input shaping), then stock profiles work as-is
  • The speed holds up: Tom's Hardware ran a speed Benchy in 18 minutes 19 seconds
  • Local control: open it at its IP in Fluidd, no cloud account — good for print farms and schools
  • Easy to service: hotend and nozzle swap in a minute, spares are cheap and widely stocked
  • Sealed chamber and 320 °C nozzle handle ABS, ASA, nylon and composites; the 1,100 W bed heats in minutes
  • Camera with timelapses, runout sensor, power-loss recovery, filament cutter and nozzle brush in the toolhead

Cons

  • No chamber heater: the enclosure self-heats to about 41 °C, fine for ABS and ASA, but Tom's Hardware still had polycarbonate lift at the corners
  • No multi-color out of the box: CANVAS arrived only in April 2026, and fitting it means pulling the toolhead apart — new extruder, board and fan shroud, and the stock glass lid no longer fits
  • Tinted glass and a dim interior light make prints hard to watch; no AI failure detection or lidar either
  • Side panels buzz at high speed, TPU must be hand-fed with the tube popped off, and early units had firmware hangs

It suits people who want a working tool, not a calibration hobby: functional parts, enclosures, jigs and engineering filaments in a closed chamber. A small farm can run two instead of one pricier machine. Skip it if you need multi-color on day one or a heated chamber for PC and PPS.

Bottom line: an enclosed CoreXY that prints fast and predictably from day one — the savings landed on lighting, chamber heat and smart features, not the motion system.
