Elegoo Neptune 2D

The Elegoo Neptune 2D is the 2021 Neptune 2 reworked with two extruders feeding a single nozzle. Both filaments meet inside one hotend in a 2-in-1-out arrangement, so it prints in two colors without a second toolhead. It targets beginners and hobbyists who want two-color printing at bedslinger money.

Build volume is 220×220×250 mm at a claimed ±0.1 mm accuracy. The 0.4 mm nozzle reaches 260 °C and the 250 W bed hits 100 °C in about three minutes. Rated speed is 180 mm/s, with 30–60 mm/s recommended. The frame is CNC-machined aluminum extrusion on POM V-wheels and the drive is bowden — both MK8 extruders sit on the top rail. A 32-bit board with TMC2225 drivers keeps it at a claimed 50 dB. Connectivity is TF card and USB only, driven from a touchscreen. It ships semi-assembled at 7.4 kg, 430×426×613 mm.

Cons

• The 2-in-1-out path is fussy on color changes: if the first filament isn't fully unloaded, the second jams and the print stalls — one owner on the Prusa forum hand-edited a long retract into the G-code
• Neither Cura nor PrusaSlicer ships a dual-material profile, so you build the settings and purge tower yourself and burn filament on every swap
• No auto bed leveling out of the box — you level with paper; Elegoo sold the probe and laser module separately
• No Wi-Fi and no camera: files travel on a TF card or over USB, with nothing to watch remotely

It suits anyone building a cheap workshop who wants to try two-color work: signs, logos, lettering with a contrasting fill. Experienced owners will see a Neptune 2 donor that already has the second drive train installed. If you just need a reliable first printer, a single-nozzle model is the easier call.

The Neptune 2D is a rare experiment for its class: two-color printing for bedslinger money, paid for with manual leveling. It's discontinued and sold out on Elegoo's own store, so used is the only way in. The catalog replacements are the Elegoo Neptune 4 (225×225×265 mm, up to 500 mm/s, auto leveling), Neptune 4 Plus (320×320×385 mm) and Neptune 4 Max (420×420×480 mm) — faster and smarter, but single-color.
