Description
The Creality K1 Max is an enclosed CoreXY printer with a large 300x300x300 mm build volume, released in 2023 as the flagship of the K1 lineup. It targets experienced makers and small print farms that need high speed on large parts. Its standout features are the AI LiDAR for first-layer scanning and the AI camera for print-failure detection.
The printer is built on a CoreXY frame with a fully enclosed chamber and an epoxy resin build plate. The nozzle reaches 300 °C and the bed reaches 120 °C, enabling PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, PC, and carbon fiber composites (PLA-CF, PA-CF). Rated top speed is 600 mm/s with 20,000 mm/s² acceleration. Firmware is based on Klipper, controlled via a 4.3-inch touchscreen or Creality Print over Wi-Fi.
Advantages
- Large 300x300x300 mm build volume — 30% bigger than the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon at $300 less (Tom's Hardware)
- AI LiDAR bed leveling in 90 seconds without physical contact — faster and more accurate than traditional probes (howtomechatronics.com)
- Record-breaking Speed Benchy of 13 minutes 50 seconds — the fastest printer in Tom's Hardware's tests at launch
- Dual-gear direct drive and hardened nozzle — stable feeding of abrasive carbon fiber filaments
- Enclosed chamber with bed up to 120 °C — safe ABS, ASA, and PC printing with minimal warping
- Klipper-based firmware with input shaping — smooth surfaces at high speeds, with open Klipper available after the community backlash
Disadvantages
- Less beginner-friendly than Bambu Lab — assumes knowledge of core 3D-printing concepts, manual slicer tuning required
- Stock Creality Print profile caps speed at 300 mm/s — reaching the full 600 mm/s requires manual settings
- Vibrations at top speed are noticeable on fine details — slow down for jewelry-grade accuracy
- Weighs 23 kg with 435x462x526 mm footprint — heavier and bulkier than most competitors, needs a sturdy table
The Creality K1 Max suits experienced makers, engineers, and small workshops that need to print large functional parts from composites at high speed. Beginners should look at the Bambu Lab P1S or Ender 3 V3 — the K1 Max demands a deeper understanding of slicer tuning.
Since the K2 Plus launch and the price drop to $649, the K1 Max remains one of the best-value enclosed CoreXY printers with a 300 mm build volume. A proven platform with a large community and readily available spare parts.
