Description
The Anycubic i3 Mega S is a budget FDM printer in a classic moving-bed layout that became one of the most popular home machines of its generation. It suits beginners and anyone who wants a reliable unit that prints well almost out of the box. Its standout feature is the Titan-type extruder, which handles flexible filament confidently.
The build volume is 210×210×205 mm, recommended print speed is 20–100 mm/s, and the minimum layer height is 0.05 mm. The nozzle reaches 260 °C and the heated Ultrabase bed goes up to 110 °C, covering PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, HIPS and wood filament. The full-metal frame reduces vibration, and assembly takes just minutes: a few screws and three cable connections.
Pros
- Sturdy full-metal frame — a stable structure with less vibration and better print quality
- Fast assembly — the printer arrives mostly pre-built; just a few screws and three cables
- Ultrabase bed with a microporous coating grips parts when hot and releases them easily once cooled — no glue or tape
- Filament run-out sensor and power-loss recovery reduce the risk of failed prints
- Titan extruder handles flexible TPU well at low speeds — rare for a budget printer
- Color touchscreen with a simple interface and a low purchase price
Cons
- Weak part cooling — at higher speeds and with PLA, cooling falls short and overhangs and small features suffer
- Sparse menu: no fine acceleration tuning, fan control or calibration assistant
- No automatic bed leveling — a level first layer has to be set by hand
- Dated 12 V electronics with no Wi-Fi: connectivity only via SD card and USB
The i3 Mega S fits beginners and home users who want an affordable, predictable printer for functional parts, enclosures and models, including flexible filament. It's an entry-level workhorse that doesn't demand deep tuning.
Bottom line: a time-tested budget printer with a reliable frame and a convenient Ultrabase bed in exchange for manual leveling and dated electronics. It is discontinued and has been replaced by the Kobra lineup.
