Description

The Anycubic Chiron is a large-format FDM printer with an open Cartesian frame, released in 2018 as an affordable way to print big models. It suits enthusiasts and anyone who needs a huge build area without buying expensive professional gear. Its headline feature is the 400×400×450 mm build volume — one of the largest in its price class.

The printer is built on a rigid aluminum frame with dual Z lead screws and uses a Titan extruder that handles flexible TPU well. The 0.4 mm nozzle reaches 260 °C and the heated Ultrabase Pro bed goes up to 100 °C, covering PLA, ABS, HIPS, PETG, TPU and wood filament. Print speed is 20–100 mm/s and layer height 0.05–0.3 mm. Auto leveling probes the bed at 25 points and compensates nozzle height in real time; a color touchscreen and a filament runout sensor round out the package.

Pros

  • Huge 400×400×450 mm build volume at a budget price — print large models in one piece
  • Ultrabase Pro bed: strong adhesion when hot and easy part release once cooled
  • Titan extruder reliably feeds flexible TPU and a wide range of materials (PLA, ABS, HIPS, PETG, wood)
  • 25-point auto leveling with real-time nozzle-height compensation
  • Rigid aluminum frame and dual Z end stops keep the large bed geometry stable

Cons

  • Modest print speed (up to 100 mm/s) and the large bed is slow to heat up
  • The 8-bit Trigorilla board is dated and limits upgrades
  • The large open bed is prone to ABS warping — printing big ABS parts without an enclosure is hard
  • Often needs tuning out of the box, and the printer itself is discontinued

The Chiron fits makers and hobbyists who need a large build volume for cosplay, helmets, enclosures and oversized prototypes in PLA and PETG. It is not a fast or high-precision machine for small batches, but a workhorse for big models on a tight budget.

Bottom line: an affordable large-format printer with an honest build area that rewards patience and tuning with the ability to print big parts in one piece.
