Description

The Elegoo Neptune 4 Plus is a large bedslinger that ships with Klipper and a 320 x 320 x 385 mm build volume. It sits mid-range in the Neptune 4 line: bigger than the Pro, cheaper and smaller than the Max. It's for people who want build space on a budget and don't mind tuning — this is not a print-out-of-the-box machine.

Print speed goes up to 500 mm/s (250 mm/s by default) at up to 12,000 mm/s², and accelerometers on both axes let you run input shaping and PID tuning straight from the screen. The extruder is a dual-gear direct drive with a 5.2:1 reduction and a titanium heat break, the nozzle reaches 300 °C with a 60 W ceramic heater and the bed goes to 100 °C. The 4.3-inch touchscreen detaches; Wi-Fi, LAN and USB are all there.

Pros

  • A 16-minute-25-second Speed Benchy in Tom's Hardware testing — third fastest on their chart at the time of the review
  • The 400 W power supply brings that big bed up to temperature in under a minute
  • Two Z lead screws tied by a belt plus extra stabilizers keep tall prints from drifting layer to layer
  • Double-sided steel sheet: textured PEI releases the part as it cools, and the other face is tuned for PLA

Cons

  • Leveling is a three-stage affair: six thumbscrews by hand, a 121-point auto probe, then Z-offset. Nailing the first layer first try is a lottery, and the manual is a wall of text
  • Sensorless homing makes a grinding noise on some units when the head parks — the fix is lowering homing speed in Klipper via Fluidd
  • Stock firmware is rough: board and screen update separately, the bundled 8 GB stick isn't enough (you need 32 GB, which the manual never mentions), and some owners ended up with a programmer. The community OpenNept4une build exists for a reason
  • Part cooling is loud: quiet mode only throttles the gantry fans, the main ones never drop below 60%, and at full tilt the airflow clears the bench
  • The nozzle is proprietary, so swapping diameters isn't quick, and spares weren't always in stock at Elegoo

It fits people printing large enclosures, helmets, props and small batches who already know what a Z-offset and a Klipper web interface are. The frame is open, so ABS and ASA want a DIY enclosure, while PLA, PETG, TPU and nylon run without caveats. Because the bed moves, it needs a solid surface.

Bottom line: plenty of volume and speed for the money, paid for in leveling time, fan noise and patience with the stock firmware.
