Description
The Anycubic Photon Mono SE is a resin (LCD/MSLA) 3D printer that helped bring monochrome curing to the affordable segment. It suits hobbyists and miniature painters who want high detail and noticeably higher speed than printers using a color RGB screen.
The build volume is 130×78×160 mm, with a 6.08-inch 2K monochrome screen (2560×1620, 51 µm XY pixel size) and 10 µm Z-axis accuracy. The monochrome panel cuts layer exposure to about 1 second, pushing print speed up to 80 mm/h — 2–3 times faster than RGB-screen models. The Z axis rides on dual linear rails for added stability and fewer layer shifts. The 405 nm UV light source uses a matrix parallel design for even exposure, and there is WiFi with control via the Anycubic app.
Pros
- Monochrome 2K screen delivers up to 80 mm/h — 2–3 times faster than RGB-screen printers and with a longer panel lifespan
- High detail: 51 µm XY pixel size and 10 µm Z accuracy — great for miniatures and jewelry master models
- Dual linear rails on the Z axis — a stable platform lift with fewer layer shifts
- Matrix parallel 405 nm UV light source — even exposure across the whole screen area
- 3.5" touchscreen, WiFi and control via the Anycubic app for print monitoring
- Affordable price and simple few-step bed leveling — a low barrier to entry for resin printing
Cons
- Small 130×78×160 mm build area — larger models must be split into parts
- Build-quality complaints and somewhat raw software inherited from the base Photon Mono
- Resin printing requires alcohol washing, UV post-curing and working with gloves and ventilation
- The model is discontinued — support and consumables are harder to find than for current printers
The Photon Mono SE fits anyone printing miniatures, figurines, busts and small high-detail parts who wants a faster, more accurate resin printer than entry RGB-screen models. It's an option for a home workshop and small volumes.
Bottom line: a fast monochrome LCD printer for its generation with good detail; today it's a budget entry-level option that newer Photon Mono models have since replaced.
