Description

The Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga is the brand's largest FDM machine: an 800 x 800 x 1000 mm build volume for $2,499. It's no desktop printer — assembled it weighs 104 kg, takes up 1224 x 1164 mm of floor and stands 1425 mm tall, so it won't fit through a standard doorway once built. It's a tool for one job: printing in one piece what a normal machine would force you to cut into a dozen parts.

It's a Cartesian flying-gantry design on a CNC-machined aluminum frame, running Klipper. Top toolhead speed is 300 mm/s at 5,000 mm/s², the stock nozzle is 0.6 mm (0.4, 0.8 and 1.0 mm included), the hotend hits 300 °C and the bed 100 °C. The bed splits into four independent zones with removable 410 x 410 mm PEI sheets, and the gantry takes up to four print heads, each running its own copy of the model.

Pros

  • 800 x 800 x 1000 mm build volume: signage or a life-sized figure comes off as one piece — a project that penciled out at 28 days in sections took 35 hours here
  • High-flow hotend measured at 30–33 mm³/s in reviews, so 0.6–1.0 mm nozzles aren't heater-limited
  • Up to four print heads on one gantry — four identical parts in a single run (extra heads sold separately)
  • Four independent bed zones with removable PEI sheets: pop one quarter out instead of wrestling a meter-wide platform
  • Klipper with USB, LAN and Wi-Fi, plus a free USB port that takes an ordinary webcam for monitoring
  • Removable 7-inch touchscreen — effectively an Android tablet; Tom's Hardware lists the interface as a plus

Cons

  • Not a desktop machine: it ships in two boxes over 50 kg each, lives on the floor and needs clearance around it — reviewers assembled it wherever the delivery landed
  • Power: five supplies, 1,530 W with one head and 100 W more per extra head. Reviews measured 100 W idle, over 1,200 W printing, and tripped a breaker. Plan a dedicated circuit
  • Leveling is manual across four bed sections plus a 100-point auto probe. Tom's Hardware says a perfect first layer never quite happens, and the seam between sheets leaves a scar across large prints
  • Big models run for days or weeks, filament goes by the kilogram, and six fans under the frame produce a hum you can hear through the floor

The Giga makes sense for large-format work: signage and interior pieces, life-sized props, enclosures, jigs and fixtures, architectural models. The open frame limits you to PLA, PETG and TPU, and nothing about first-layer tuning is automated. This is not a first printer.

Bottom line: the cheapest route to a cubic meter of print space, paid for in floor space, electricity, print time and leveling hassle.
