Description
The Elegoo Mars 5 is the base model of the refreshed Mars line: a compact resin printer built around a 6.6-inch 4K monochrome LCD. Most people buy it first, for miniatures, busts and small parts. No camera, no Wi-Fi, no tilting vat — Elegoo assembled it from simplified Saturn 4 parts.
Build volume is 143×90×150 mm, the screen runs 4098×2560 at a 35 μm pixel, and speed tops out at 70 mm/h. Layer height runs 0.01–0.2 mm with 0.02 mm Z accuracy. A 405 nm COB array cures the resin, and the LCD is covered by PET film rather than tempered glass. Files arrive on a USB stick; a vertical 3.5-inch touchscreen runs the show.
Pros
- On ordinary models the 4K panel holds up against the 9K Mars 4 Ultra — 3DToday says so outright, and VogMan's prints stay crisp under magnification
- Linear rail plus lead screw: LIDER-3D found no trace of wobble even at the full 70 mm/h
- The textured plate carried over from the Saturn 4 grips well and releases prints predictably
- Mechanical sensors catch cured leftovers in the vat, low resin and failed leveling — that's what saves the LCD from a costly repair
- The lid has a port for the Elegoo Mini Heater with carbon filter, which pushes warm air through the chamber in winter
- The box covers a whole first print: two scrapers, gloves, masks, funnels, a USB stick and spare screws
Cons
- Anti-aliasing isn't supported — Elegoo confirmed it to FauxHammer, and at a 35 μm pixel it would have helped
- No Wi-Fi and no camera: you walk the file over on a stick and watch the print with your own eyes
- Auto leveling is only half automatic: the plate is factory-set and the sprung mount just finds zero, so a rough shipment means leveling by hand
- The heater and air purifier are separate purchases, and in a cold room you'll be stretching exposure times
It suits anyone trying resin printing for the first time: miniatures, busts, keychains, scale model parts and small prototypes, where clean geometry matters more than build size. For a veteran, it's a second machine for simple jobs.
Bottom line: an honest base with no marketing numbers — predictable mechanics and solid print quality for very little money; speed, Wi-Fi, a camera and anti-aliasing all stayed in the Ultra.
