Which QIDI 3D Printer Should You Buy in 2026?
The full QIDI lineup for 2026: Q2C, Q2, Plus4, the new Plus5 and the Max4 flagship. Heated chambers, open Klipper firmware, an honest look at the QIDI Box, and what each machine really costs.
QIDI sells five printers in 2026: the Q2C at $379 up to the Max4 flagship at $1,049. All of them are enclosed CoreXY machines with a direct drive, a 370 °C hotend, a 120 °C bed and Klipper-based firmware. What sets the brand apart from Bambu Lab and Creality at these prices is simple: an actively heated 65 °C chamber ships as standard on four of the five.
Here is the lineup without the marketing: what to buy as a first printer, what handles ABS and nylon, whether the multicolor add-on is worth the money, which models are already sold out, and what the printer-only versus Combo split actually costs. Every price and stock status below was checked against QIDI's own storefronts on 18 August 2026.
The 2026 QIDI lineup
The range splits in two. The Q-series (Q2C and Q2) are compact 270×270×256 mm machines sharing one chassis with different internals. The large-format branch (Plus4, Plus5, Max4) runs from 305×305×280 up to 390×390×340 mm. Sitting alongside them is the QIDI Box multicolor unit at $228, which bolts onto any of the five. Everything else — Q1 Pro, X-Max 3, X-Plus 3, X-Smart 3, i-Fast — is either sold out or discontinued.

What actually matters when choosing
- Chamber heating. The dividing line of the range. Q2, Plus4, Plus5 and Max4 hold an active 65 °C; the Q2C is enclosed but unheated. For ABS, ASA, PC, nylon and PPS that heat is the whole game — without it, big parts delaminate and curl. Background reading: our warping guide.
- Build volume. From 18.7 L on the Q2C and Q2 to 51.7 L on the Max4 — nearly triple. The Plus4 gives 39 % more volume than the Q2, and the Plus5 adds another 18 % over the Plus4 in the same footprint.
- Multicolor. On QIDI that means the separate $228 QIDI Box, or a Combo bundle. It fits all five current models, with caveats covered in their own section below.
- Abrasive filaments. Hardened dual-gear extruders and bimetal nozzles with hardened steel inserts ship from the factory on every current model. Carbon and glass fiber print out of the box, no parts swap needed.
- Open firmware. Klipper, Fluidd over the printer's IP, SSH, KIAUH preinstalled, sources on GitHub. If you plan to write macros or wire up remote access, QIDI lets you in.
- Noise and desk space. The Q2 is 402×438×494 mm and 18.1 kg, the Plus5 500×488×558 mm and 29 kg, the Max4 40 kg. Tom's Hardware called the Q2 loud, and not just the fans — the filament cutter and the feed unit clatter too.
- Power draw. Heating a chamber and a bed costs watts: 350 W on the Q2C, 630 W on the Q2, 800 W on the Plus4, 1,350 W on the Max4. If you cost your prints, our print cost calculator helps.
- How current the model is. The Q1 Pro and X-Max 3 are sold out on QIDI's own stores, displaced by the Q2 and Plus5. Only worth buying at a real discount, and knowing they are the outgoing generation.
First printer on a budget — QIDI Q2C
If you print PLA, PETG and TPU and want an enclosed machine without paying for extras, the Q2C at $379 is it. Inside is the same chassis as the pricier Q2: CoreXY on a 1.5GT belt, a linear rail on X, two independent lead screws on Z, a hardened dual-gear direct drive and a bimetal hotend good for 370 °C. First-layer calibration runs off a load cell built into the hotend — the nozzle physically taps the bed to build a mesh. That is rare below $500. Full write-up in our QIDI Q2C review.
What the $120 gap buys you on the Q2: active chamber heating, a monitoring camera with AI failure detection, and a three-stage filter. The enclosure alone still helps — it holds a stable temperature and blocks drafts, so an occasional ABS part will come out fine. Printing engineering plastics day in, day out is a different story. The sweet spot — QIDI Q2
The Q2 at $499 is the machine most people come to QIDI for. A second-generation PTC chamber heater holds a steady 65 °C, the hotend reaches 370 °C and the bed 120 °C. Tom's Hardware ran PPS, PAHT, PA6, PA11, PA12 and polycarbonate on it, and said ABS and ASA do not make it break a sweat. For PLA and PETG the top cover slides back like a sunroof so the chamber vents. It also carries MET certification for the US and Canada plus international IECEE CB, with flame-retardant interior panels.

Large engineering parts — Plus4 and the new Plus5
The Plus4 at $649 is the last-generation workhorse: 305×305×280 mm, the same 65 °C chamber and 370 °C hotend as the Q2, but 39 % more volume. It has been out since September 2024, which means the most settled community and the most ready-made fixes. QIDI's EU store has already sold through its stock, and no new batch appears to be coming.
The reason is obvious: the Plus5 landed on 5 August 2026 at $749. Build volume is up to 320×320×300 mm — 18 % more capacity in essentially the same footprint. The chamber heater jumped to 550 W, a 37.5 % increase. A tube is now routed to the toolhead for the external Polar Cooler. The nozzle is the same bimetal unit with a hardened steel insert used on the Q2. Tom's Hardware printed a PPS-CF part on it at 350 °C nozzle, 100 °C bed and 65 °C chamber — flawless and warp-free, where the same filament had failed for that reviewer on the Plus4. Their verdict: the Plus5 goes toe to toe with Bambu Lab's H2 series for nearly half the price.

Maximum format — QIDI Max4
The Max4 at $1,049 is the flagship QIDI showed at Formnext 2025. Its 390×390×340 mm envelope works out to 51.7 L, nearly double the Plus4. Per our catalog data it is the only QIDI that prints at 600 mm/s (travel goes to 800 mm/s), with 30,000 mm/s² acceleration and 40 mm³/s of hotend flow. AppleInsider scored it 4.5 out of 5 and wrote that the walls come out so smooth you have to hunt for the layer lines. The criticisms were just as plain: the price rules out newcomers, the external cooler is noisy, and the mobile app does little beyond monitoring.

Multicolor: what's wrong with the QIDI Box
The QIDI Box is the brand's answer to Bambu's AMS. Four slots, chain up to four units for 16 filaments, hardened dual-gear feed motors, NFC recognition of QIDI's own spools. Its one genuine edge over the competition: active drying to 65 °C while a print is running. There is still only one hotend, so multicolor and multi-material work happens sequentially through filament swaps, not simultaneously.
Now the honest part. The Tom's Hardware reviewer tested a Q2 Combo and could not finish a single multicolor print. The cause is friction in the feed path: a tight hub plus a 90-degree bend in the Bowden tube where it meets the extruder. He pulled the tube and pushed filament by hand, and called the drag preposterous. Even after printing the riser that lifts the lid and eases the bend — a file QIDI itself hosts on its wiki — the unit could reliably feed one filament, not four. A second Box sent as a replacement behaved identically. The verdict: at the time of the review the QIDI Box was a great filament dryer and not much else.
Two practical notes. Stiff 72D TPU would not feed through the unit — print flexibles from an external spool holder instead. The hub cable on the Plus4 differs from the Q2, Max4 and Plus5 one, though the Box itself is universal: moving it to another printer needs an adaptation kit at $41–$65. The cost of a hot chamber — PLA clogs
A heated chamber has a downside. At 65 °C inside, heat creeps up to the heatbreak and the feed zone, PLA softens too early, and you get textbook heat creep — softened filament swells in the cold zone and jams solid. This afflicts every enclosed machine, not just QIDI; causes and cures are in our nozzle clogging guide. The stock fix is simple: for PLA and PETG slide the top cover back and leave chamber heating off.
QIDI's own answer is the Polar Cooler, $199 standalone or $150 bundled with a printer. It is an external 234×92×214 mm, 1.6 kg box that pipes 5–10 °C air — colder than the room — onto the hotend's cold side and the filament path through a silicone hose. QIDI claims a 90 % reduction in clogs. It works with the Q2, Max4 and Plus5. The honest catch: AppleInsider's Max4 review likened the noise to having an angry robot vacuum in the room.
Openness: Klipper, Fluidd and SSH
After chamber heating this is the second reason to pick QIDI, and the sharpest contrast with Bambu Lab. The printer runs Klipper, Fluidd opens in any browser at the machine's IP, and SSH is enabled out of the box. Printing is entirely local: no cloud account is required to send a job or watch it. If you want to bolt on your own tooling, nothing is standing in the way.
- Sources are public. QIDITECH has 12 public GitHub repositories under GPL-3.0 and AGPL-3.0: per-model firmware, its own Klipper and Moonraker forks, and the QIDI Studio and QIDI Slicer slicers. The Max4 and QIDI Studio repos were last pushed on 6 August 2026.
- SSH from the factory. Login mks, password makerbase, port 22. Moonraker is already there on 127.0.0.1:7125, along with KIAUH, the Klipper install and update helper.
- Fluidd unrestricted. The manufacturer's own wiki documents how to expose the full data view including the bed mesh, how to disable auto leveling, and how to turn off KAMP. These settings are not hidden from the owner.
- A familiar slicer. QIDI Studio is a fork of Bambu Studio, which itself grew out of PrusaSlicer. Anyone who has used either will be at home. Stock profiles are sensible, and you can drive the printer from OrcaSlicer instead.
Discontinued models: bargain or trap
The Q1 Pro and X-Max 3 are still listed on QIDI's US store but with zero stock, and the Q1 Pro has been pulled from the EU store entirely. Third-party sellers still carry both, often well below the current models. The Q1 Pro is a compact 245×245×240 mm machine with a 60 °C chamber and a 350 °C hotend — still a sane entry point into enclosed engineering-plastic printing if you find one discounted.
The X-Max 3 is a big 325×325×315 mm enclosed CoreXY from 2023 that was the flagship until the Plus4 arrived. It is heavy at 38 kg and has no monitoring camera, but the format still holds up. Details in the X-Max 3 review and its known issues.
The X-Plus 3, X-Smart 3 and the IDEX i-Fast are gone from the store completely — spare parts only. That is actually the good news: the official store currently lists 195 accessory and spare-part items against 8 printers, and nozzles, hotends, plates, boards and cables for the retired models are all still in stock. QIDI vs the competition — honestly
QIDI has one strength and it is a big one: heated chambers and 370 °C hotends at prices where rivals offer neither. The Bambu Lab P1S at $399 undercuts the Q2, but its enclosure is passive and its hotend tops out at 300 °C. The weakness is equally singular: everything to do with color changes and ecosystem polish. Bambu's AMS simply works. The QIDI Box does not, yet.

What it really costs: printer only vs Combo
QIDI sells most models in two versions: bare, and as a Combo with the QIDI Box. There is a third tier too — a Polar Cooler bundle. The figures below all come from QIDI's US storefront, the one place that lists every tier for every model in dollars; the global store differs by a few tens of dollars on some rows. Since the Box is the weakest part of the package and the Cooler is the fix for a problem the heated chamber creates, it pays to see the ladder laid out before you pick a checkout button.

One thing you will not be paying for is proprietary filament. QIDI's own spools carry NFC tags that set the profile automatically, but third-party material is entered from the printer screen in a few taps and works exactly the same. Bottom line — which QIDI to buy
- First printer, PLA and PETG: the Q2C at $379. Same chassis and same hotend as the Q2, minus the chamber heat.
- One machine for everything, ABS and ASA often: the Q2 at $499. The most balanced pick in the range and the most discussed model of the brand.
- Large engineering parts: the Plus5 at $749 if you can live with brand-new-model documentation gaps, or the proven Plus4 at $649 if you want predictability.
- Maximum format and speed: the Max4 at $1,049. 51.7 L and 600 mm/s printing, at the cost of 40 kg and 1,350 W.
- Multicolor: wait. Buy the QIDI Box as a four-spool dryer, and go elsewhere for dependable color changes.
- Bargain hunting: a discounted Q1 Pro or X-Max 3 from a third-party seller — an outgoing generation, but QIDI still stocks spares for both.
