Anycubic Photon Mono 4 vs M7: $240 10K Against $493 14K
Anycubic Photon Mono 4 versus Photon Mono M7 compared: pixel size, build volume, speed, consumables and price — and what the 14K premium actually buys.
The Anycubic Photon Mono 4 and Photon Mono M7 are two resin printers from the same brand separated by roughly 2x in price — about $240 versus $493 at Anycubic's own store. The cheaper one runs a 7-inch 10K LCD with a square 17 µm pixel and a 153.4 × 87 × 165 mm build volume (2.2 L); the bigger one has a 10.1-inch 14K panel with a 16.8 × 24.8 µm pixel and 223 × 126 × 230 mm (6.5 L).
Short answer
Printing minis, small parts and busts up to 16 cm? Get the Photon Mono 4. It costs half as much and its pixel geometry is actually tighter: 17 µm on both axes versus 24.8 µm vertically on the M7. Need large models in one piece, or batches of small ones per run? Get the M7: nearly triple the volume, double the speed, a leveling-free plate and Wi-Fi. The extra ~$250 buys you size and speed — not "more resolution".

Why 14K doesn't mean "sharper"
"14K" counts pixels along the long edge — it says nothing about how big each pixel is. What actually drives detail on an MSLA machine is microns per pixel, and the math is trivial: divide build width by panel resolution.
Mono 4: 153.4 mm / 9024 = 17 µm on X and 87 mm / 5120 = 17 µm on Y — a square pixel. M7: 223 mm / 13312 = 16.8 µm on X, but 126 mm / 5120 = 24.6 µm on Y, and the spec sheet lists 24.8 µm. Anycubic states exactly that in the official M7 spec sheet. So the M7 is marginally finer horizontally and about 1.5x coarser vertically than the cheaper machine.
Bottom line: on fine detail the two machines are effectively equal, and picking between them on the "10K vs 14K" line is pointless. The real difference is area — the M7 spreads the same microns across roughly twice the plate area — 28,098 mm² against 13,346 mm².
Build volume: 2.2 vs 6.5 liters
This is where the gap is real. The Mono 4's 153.4 × 87 mm build area is barely bigger than your palm. A 16 cm bust fits; a 1:1 helmet, chunky terrain or thirty minis in a single run do not. Amazon reviewers call it out directly — 12 separate reviews complaining about the small build area against an overall 4.4 out of 5 from 511 ratings.
The M7 gives you 223 × 126 × 230 mm, just about triple the volume — 2.95x. The trade-off is a 1 L vat instead of 390 ml. Owners note the printer refuses to start when resin level is low, so even a single small part means pouring in noticeably more resin and draining it back afterwards.
Print quality in practice
The most useful data point came from someone who owns both. In a July Reddit thread they ran the same STL, same orientation, same supports and same resin at 0.05 mm. The Mono 4 came out "almost flawlessly"; the higher-end M7-family machine showed clear horizontal banding, even on walls perpendicular to the plate.
The community read: the stronger 14K panel (4500 µW/cm² versus ~3000) over-exposes the resin, light punches deeper than the nominal layer and cures it thicker. Mono 4 profiles do not transfer to the M7 — exposure has to be re-dialed. That's a setup requirement, not a defect: with a tuned exposure the M7 prints clean, which reviewers and owners both confirm.
The other classic M7 complaint is prints not sticking in the middle of the plate while the edges are fine. In a two-month troubleshooting thread two owners landed on the same fix independently: raise bottom-layer exposure from 30 to 45 seconds. Speed
On paper: the Mono 4 does up to 50 mm/h with standard resin and up to 70 mm/h with high-speed resin; the M7 does 90 and 150 mm/h. In both cases the headline number only happens on high-speed resin, which runs about twice the price of standard — roughly $46 versus $24 per kilo according to reviews of the M7 line.
You can see the same gap in Anycubic's official parameter tables: with standard resin at 0.05 mm, the Mono 4 needs 2.6 s per layer while the M7 needs 1.8 s. The M7 also has a dedicated fast mode at 0.1 mm with a 4 mm lift at 15 mm/s. On a 20 cm model that's hours; on a plate of 4 cm minis it's minutes.
Hardware and handling
Mechanically the M7 is the more serious machine: the plate rides dual linear rails at 10 µm accuracy versus a single rail and 30 µm on the Mono 4. Its plate needs no manual leveling either — calibration runs off plate pressure via a strain gauge, and owners confirm printing straight out of the box. The Mono 4 uses classic 4-point manual leveling with a calibration sheet.
There's a surprise going the other way: power-loss resume is officially present on the cheap Mono 4 and absent on the M7. For long overnight jobs on flaky mains that matters more than it sounds. Another community gripe about the M7 is factory QC — experienced owners report batches shipping with plates that aren't flat.
Footprint differs too: 4 kg and 230 × 235 × 391 mm against 12 kg and 312 × 315 × 520 mm. The Mono 4 lives happily on a desk; the M7 wants its own sturdy surface.
Software, slicers and connectivity
The Mono 4 officially supports only Photon Workshop and .pm4n files, and transfers happen strictly over a USB stick — there's no Wi-Fi hardware, no app support, and the firmware menu only toggles between English and Chinese. The M7 ships with a Wi-Fi antenna, supports the Anycubic app, and lists ChiTuBox alongside Photon Workshop; Lychee and wired LAN carry a "scheduled" footnote.
Smart sensing is M7 territory as well: failed-print detection (active from a 15 × 15 mm layer area), resin volume checks, debris detection in the vat and film-life reminders. The flip side shows up in owner reviews — false "residue detected" alerts on a perfectly clean vat. The Mono 4's only smart feature is a print and layer counter.
One more non-obvious M7 limitation: its firmware won't let you set a different light-off delay for bottom and normal layers, so the value has to be changed by hand mid-print. Anycubic publishes a firmware changelog for the Mono 4; for the base M7 only an FPGA update is posted.
Noise, fumes and desk space
An owner who upgraded from one to the other put it plainly: the M7's fans kick in during printing and some people will find it loud, whereas the Photon Mono 4 "printed practically silently". A Russian-language review compares M7 noise to an open-frame FDM machine. That said, the Mono 4 has its own noise complaint — two separate reviews mention a droning LED-array fan.
Neither model includes an air purifier, and resin smell is a technology-wide issue: reviews of both printers describe it as overwhelming. Consumables and running costs
This is the part buyers usually skip. The LCD on any resin printer is a consumable — community experience puts realistic life between six months and a year and a half depending on load, and Anycubic's warranty covers the screen for 6 months against 12 for the printer itself. Release film carries no warranty at all.

As a share of machine price, the Mono 4's screen is about half the printer; the M7's is roughly a quarter. The film story is even more lopsided. the Mono 4's film swaps in as a single assembly and its consumables are shared with the Photon Mono 2, so owners recommend buying framed spares up front. On the M7, Anycubic's official procedure means 22 vat screws plus 22 ring screws, correct film orientation, and trimming the excess with a knife. Judging by community threads, not everyone gets their print quality back afterwards — over-tensioning the film makes things worse.
Availability matters too. Mono 4 spares are stocked almost everywhere, while M7 parts were listed as out of stock across specialist shops at the time of writing. If you buy the M7, order film and screen protectors together with the printer.
Price
As of July 21, 2026 the Anycubic store lists the Photon Mono 4 at $240 (normally $252) and the Photon Mono M7 at $493 (normally $597). Street prices go lower — the cheapest M7 listing tracked by community aggregators sat around $356. In Russia the pair sells for roughly 16,000 ₽ against 37,300–39,400 ₽. Marketplaces and AliExpress routinely undercut the official store, so the catalog cards below may show a lower figure than the prices quoted here — they track the cheapest partner listing.
Availability differs as much as price. The Mono 4 is stocked by plenty of sellers — a single Russian marketplace listing alone shows 103 purchases — while the M7 is carried by a handful of shops, often on backorder. The Russian distributor warranties the printer for 12 months and the LCD for 3.
Reliability and owner feedback
By ratings the cheaper machine looks calmer: 4.4 out of 5 from 511 Amazon ratings versus 4.0 from 65 for the M7, with 7% versus 11% one-star reviews. Russian retailer DNS shows the reverse — 4.81 from 22 reviews for the M7 against 4.6 from 82 for the Mono 4, though the M7 sample is four times smaller. A community aggregator scores the M7 at 67 out of 100 across 42 mentions. But calmer doesn't mean trouble-free — the failure modes are simply different.
Mono 4 reviews repeat cracked vats, screens dying at the three-to-four month mark, and a bundled screen protector that won't seat because the panel sits below the surrounding shell. M7 reports center on non-flat plates from the factory, first-month failures such as a homing error requiring service, and stock profiles that are too aggressive out of the box. Verdict: who should buy what
Get the Photon Mono 4 if you print tabletop minis, small parts, jewelry and busts up to 16 cm; if the printer shares a room with you and quiet plus compact matters; or if this is your first resin machine and you'd rather not sink $500 into a workflow you might hate once washing, curing and fumes enter the picture. Cheap consumables, a painless film swap and power-loss resume come along for the ride.
Get the Photon Mono M7 if size is your actual bottleneck — large busts, helmets, terrain, prop housings — or if you print regularly in batches, where twice the plate area and double the speed genuinely save days. Budget for re-dialing the stock profiles, pricier consumables that are harder to source, and no power-loss resume.
What you should not do is pay the premium "for 14K". On microns per pixel the two are comparable, and vertically the cheaper machine is actually finer.
