The gears that pull filament into the hotend. Their teeth pack with plastic dust and round over, and abrasive carbon- or glass-filled filament wears them down fast. The symptoms are unmistakable: the extruder clicks, feeding skips, walls come out thin, and long solid stretches show clear under-extrusion. Cleaning the teeth buys you a print or two — a rounded tooth simply can't bite the filament anymore. Replace them as a pair; swapping one gear is pointless since both wear together.
