Description
eSUN PLA-LW is a foaming PLA for lightweight parts. Heated above ~230 °C the material expands and its density drops almost in half. By tuning temperature and flow you can print parts up to 40% lighter than regular PLA — a trick RC plane builders love.
Print Settings
- Nozzle temperature: 230–260 °C (hotter = more foaming)
- Bed temperature: 45–60 °C
- Flow: reduce by 30–50% to compensate for foaming
- Cooling fan: 100%
- Diameter: 1.75 mm, 1 kg spool
Foaming depends on temperature: calibrate the material with a temperature tower first and dial in flow. Without lowering flow the part over-extrudes — the material expands and there's 'more' of it than the slicer expected.
Ideal for RC planes, wings, lightweight shells and drones where every gram counts. Prints on open-frame machines, no enclosure needed.
FAQ
When heated the material foams and expands. If you don't cut flow by 30–50% the part over-extrudes. Find the exact value with a temperature tower on your own printer.
